Sponsor A Child

The children of Divine Family Orphanage are raised in a Christ-centered, supportive home, giving the children a relational family environment where they can grow and thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The estimated cost to care for a child for a month is about $200. We ask that sponsors come alongside at an about they are able (recommended $45-50 per month) to help provide for the child they sponsor while getting to build a relationship with them.

Sponsors will receive and exchange regular email updates and photos. It can be arranged for children to receive letters and small packages.

THEIR STORIES

Each of the children in our care came to Divine Family Orphanage is a special way from a unique background. These are their stories. 



Kensly & Kensley Jean Baptiste 

DOB: June 14, 2011
Came to Divine Family: December 12, 2013

Kensly and Kensley were brought to the orphanage by their father at 2 years old. He first came with them September 2013. The mother had passed away and he was unable to care for the boys. At the time he was told that they were unable to accept anymore children. The father was told to come back in 3 months if he was still unable to care for them. In December he returned. Chedner did not want to take the boys because were with their father. But when Chedner asked where they would go if he didn't take them. The father said he does going to leave them in the street. After that Chedner could not bare to let that happen. He signed them over to the orphanage and left. He has not be back to visit the boys since and Chedner has not heard anything from him. The home would not be the same without those boys living there. They came small and malnourished. They were also developmentally delayed and just learning how to walk at 2 ½. They have come a long way since they first came to the orphanage and they will start preschool in the fall. 


WooJerry Jolissant 

DOB: June 16, 2004
Came to Divine Family: March 21, 2013

Jerry came from Petit Goave with his brother Godson. Jerry and Godson have the same mother but different fathers. Jerry's father died when he was a baby and his mother passed away shortly before he came to the orphanage. After their mother died Jerry and Godson had no where to go. They were brought by their uncle (their mother's brother – Tania's father). Their uncle was living in Port au Prince and knew that the boys had no where to go. His daughter had already been living at Divine Family for about 10 months. He came to Chedner and told him the boys situation and Chedner agreed to take them in. 


Jerry “Godson” Charles

DOB: September 20, 2006
Came to Divine Family: March 21, 2013

Godson came from Petit Goave with his brother Jerry. Godson and Jerry have the same mother but different fathers. Godson's father abandoned him and his mother when he was an infant. His mother died shortly before the came to the orphanage. After their mother died Jerry and Godson had no where to go. They were brought by their uncle (their mother's brother – Tania's father). Their uncle was living in Port au Prince and knew that the boys had no where to go. His daughter had already been living at Divine Family for about 10 months. He came to Chedner and told him the boys situation and Chedner agreed to take them in. 


Valentina “Vava” Joseph

DOB:  November 22, 2007
Came to Divine Family: July 24, 2012

Vava is from Sarthe, the same area that the orphanage is located. She was brought by her mother and her biological father had passed away. Between her mother and step-father they had 9 children and her mother was pregnant. Her mother and step-father were only care for 2 of their children. The rest of the children had to left with family or in another orphanage and the older ones had been left to care for themselves. Vava's mother is a vendor in the street. She leaves her children home alone during the day and none of their children had attended school. Since coming to the orphanage her mother has not come to visit her even though she lives in the same neighborhood. 



Clifton “Cliff” Benjamin

DOB: May 29, 2008
Came to Divine Family: May 18, 2013

Cliff was brought to the orphanage by his mother. His father had abandoned the family. Cliff was born without handicap. He was crawling and starting to pull himself up to stand. Around 12-18 months old Cliff started to have seizures that has left him handicap. His body is stiff and contracted and he's unable to speak. His mother has 4 other children that she is able to care for but with the amount of needs that Cliff has it became difficult for her to care for him on her own. She tried gets care for him when he starting having seizure but health care is limited in Haiti. She was devastated to be told that Cliff would never live a normal life. Cliff needs physical therapy but resources at the orphanage are limited. Cliff loves watching and listening to the other kids and likes to be “included” as much as possible. 


Guipsoh Edume

DOB: October 16, 2007
Came to Divine Family: September 15, 2013

Guipsoh was brought by his mother. His father had abandoned their family in 2010. Guipsoh is one of 5 siblings. His mother found the orphanage by asking around in the street. The first time she came asking to leaving Guipsoh but since he has a family Chedner did not want to take him from his mother. She was told to return in 2 months if her situation didn't change. She came back in September with Guipsoh and Chedner allowed him to stay. Guipsoh is one of the quieter children. He is more reserved and less likely to be making a big commotion. He also tends to get picked on more often than the other kids. 





Renante “Bebe” Jules

DOB: February 14, 2005
Came to Divine Family: December 2013

Bebe was brought to the orphanage from Les Cayes. She came from a poor family that has 7 other children. She was not being well taken care of and was often left to work in the street. When Bebe came to the orphanage her hair was an orange color that comes from malnutrition. Bebe is a sweet girl and is often found helping out around the house. 



Djeff Janvier

DOB: September 16, 2001
Came to Divine Family: March 19, 2014

Djeff and his younger brother, Frantzdy, were brought by someone who may has been their uncle, nevertheless it was someone concerned about the boys. Djeff and Frantzdy were brought to the orphanage from Jeremie. They have no parents and they were left living alone in the street. They worked in the street as vendors or helped people in the area with gardening in order to make a little money. The boys had never been to school. When the boys came to the orphanage their rough exterior that you create while fending for themselves was apart. Djeff is so eager to help around the house and loves doing work when needed. He loved having the opportunity to go to school this past year and learn how to read and write. 



Frantzdy Janvier

DOB: April 19, 2003
Came to Divine Family: March 19, 2014

Frantzdy and his older brother, Djeff, were brought by someone who may has been their uncle, nevertheless it was someone concerned about the boys. Djeff and Frantzdy were brought to the orphanage from Jeremie. They have no parents and they were left living alone in the street. They worked in the street as vendors or helped people in the area with gardening in order to make a little money. The boys had never been to school. When the boys came to the orphanage their rough exterior that you create while fending for themselves was apart. Frantzdy is still learning how to let down those walls. He is helpful around the house but he is tough and quick to question authority. 

Marie “Tania” Yodine Charles

DOB: March 3, 2009
Came to Divine Family: May 2012

Tania was one of the first children to come to live at the orphanage. She was brought by her father. Her family is from Sarthe, the neighborhood where the orphanage is located. Her father brought her unable to care for her and looking for help. Chedner is reluctant to take any children from their families but he agreed to take her in. Tania's father frequently comes to visit her but her mother has only come by twice in the 2 years she has been living at the orphanage. Tania is cousins with Jerry and Godson. She is a sweet, quiet girl that takes a little longer to open up than some of the ones kids. 

Lourdesmilla Divet

DOB: September 14, 2008
Came to Divine Family: April 2014

Lourdesmilla is a sweet child that crazes attention. She was brought to the orphanage from a small village in Les Cayes by a friend of Chedner. She was malnourished and neglected. It is noticeable by her personality that she seeks acceptance from others. Lourdesmilla needs extra help in school and would benefit from tutoring. 




Joseph "Chichi" Loubens

Chichi has cerebral palsy. He was brought to the orphanage by his mentally ill mother she because was able to provide for his needs. She has since passed way. Chichi is such a fun, loving boy. He so sweet and loves to be around the other kids. He understand much more than he is able to express. We are working with him on his balance and flexibility.



Woodmaïl


Woodmaïl came to Divine Family August 2016 with his brother and sister. They were brought by their father. His wife became mentally ill and left the family when the youngest was a baby. He came to us because he was struggling to fed his children. But he loves he children. This is why we would like to work with him to help he become financially stable so he is able to care for his children. Our goal is to have them home with him in the next 6 months to a year while continuing to help with their education.










Woody


Woody came to Divine Family August 2016 with his brother and sister. They were brought by their father. His wife became mentally ill and left the family when the youngest was a baby. He came to us because he was struggling to fed his children. But he loves he children. This is why we would like to work with him to help he become financially stable so he is able to care for his children. Our goal is to have them home with him in the next 6 months to a year while continuing to help with their education.











Dachca

Dachca came to Divine Family August 2016 with her brother. They were brought by their father. His wife became mentally ill and left the family when the youngest was a baby. He came to us because he was struggling to fed his children. But he loves he children. This is why we would like to work with him to help he become financially stable so he is able to care for his children. Our goal is to have them home with him in the next 6 months to a year while continuing to help with their education.



Jackson

Jackson is one of our newest kiddos. He has cerebral palsy. He came to us from a malnutrition clinic. He was abandoned at a police station before he found this way to the clinic. At the clinic he was loved and cared for but they are not able to keep children. We look forward to continuing therapy with him and watching him progress. 














Esther

Esther is one of our newest kiddos. She has special needs but does not have a specific diagnosis. She came to us from a malnutrition clinic with Jackson. She was abandoned at a police station before she found this way to the clinic. At the clinic she was loved and cared for but they are not able to keep children. We look forward to continuing therapy with her and watching her progress. 





MONTHLY EXPENSES:
Monthly operating expenses are about $3,750
  1. Staff wages are $800/month = $9,600/year
  2. $250/month for cleaning supplies: detergent, soap, bleach, disinfectant, etc. = $3,000/year
  3. $200/month for house maintenance, medical needs, etc. = $2,400/year
  4. $2,000-2,500/month is necessary to provide 3 meals a day, includes children and staff

Monthly operating and educational needs = $3,895/month
